The Air Jordan Mars 270: the latest episode in the Jordan Brand / Spike Lee story
The Air Jordan Mars 270 is named after Mars Blackmon; a character from the Spike Lee movie She's Gotta Have It. Played by Lee himself; Mars went on to feature in the famous “Mars plus Mike” Nike TV ads for the Air Jordan III. This is just one example of the close ties between the Jordan Brand and America's premier black film director – ties which gave rise to hybrid sneakers like 2006's Spizike and Jordan Son of Mars in 2012. Now that relationship has entered a new phase with the Air Jordan Mars; designed by Lee's son; Jackson Lee.
The Air Jordan Mars 270 keeps it casual
Historically; the Air Jordan range is all about on-court prowess. However; the Jordan Mars 270 is very much a lifestyle shoe; with a firmer ride than many previous Jordan models. Coupled with high impact looks; the Mars 270 demands to be discussed.
Sampling all the greatest hits
Like the Spizike; the Air Jordan Mars 270 is a mash-up of earlier Jordan models. The high; padded ankle collar is a shout out to the AJ I; while the side netting comes from the AJ IV; the mudguard is borrowed from the AJ V and the rear spoiler is a nod to the AJ VI. On top of that; it has shark's tooth shaped TPU plastic panels to the sidewalls for additional arch support. Meanwhile; its underpinnings include a visible air unit and a translucent “icy gum” bottom. The shoe has been released in several bold colourways; each of which puts its own twist on this head-turning silhouette.
Set your own trends with the Jordan Mars 270
Since it's still pretty new to the shelves; there aren't yet any tried and tested tips on how best to rock the Jordan Mars 270. A safe bet would be to incorporate it with some super casual sweats and shorts from the Jordan Brand Poolside range.
