Henegouwerplein, Rotterdam

For over a decade, Rotterdam has become a growing hub for basketball in the Netherlands. Situated in the west of the city lies the beloved Henegouwerplein, a local court made from the soles of old basketball sneakers, and often frequented by a then, young and native Francisco Elson. From the outdoor court in Lloydwartier to the Topsportcentrum; it’s clear that basketball culture has anchored itself within the city’s history.

The Concrete Lions, Rotterdam’s local basketball team, have established themselves as worthy competitors in the local leagues. With its community reaching over 300 active members, the sport has become a prominent feature of the city. This support undoubtedly leaves Rotterdam a home for the next generation of ballers in the Netherlands.
