Nike Celebrates Tns

CELEBRATING AN ICON

To extend Nike’s 50th anniversary through Foot Locker distinction, we’re kicking off the celebration with an iconic silhouette. Can you guess which one is it?

Commonly rebranded TN, the Air Max Plus was introduced by Nike in 1998. Designed by Sean McDowell in Florida, this sneaker quickly became a cultural phenomenon. The designer got inspired by gradient sunset colors of the beach, palm trees, and whale's tails to create one of the most head-turning looks ever. Given the massive impact of the Air Max Plus on fashion, it's easy to forget that it was made to run. McDowell incorporated as many performance benefits as possible, including flex grooves through the forefoot and Nike's best practices for the outsole. This way, the TN became a giant lifestyle shoe that weighs less than 12 ounces, which is very lightweight for a PU shoe, especially at that time.

For over two decades now, the TN shoe has been accompanying and evolving with its fans, from early adopters to recent style enthusiasts.

Miruv, the Store Athlete at Nike Town London is telling us everything we need to know about TNs. She is answering the questions of our Stripers Aaron from Derby and Catarina from London in our Star and Stripers interview. As a TN collector having around 17 pairs, Aaron is a true TN lover. Also a big fan of TNs, Catarina wears them on a daily basis and loves how comfortable they are and how easy it is to wear them with a casual fit.
