YOUR ASICS SHOES SELECTION

Comfortable kicks for sport or street. Although they are famous for innovative running shoes, Asics are no one trick pony. Here you will find a selection of the very best Asics shoes for road runners (like the Gel-Quantum), trail runners, and even non-runners. You heard. Check out lifestyle-oriented styles like the Asics Japan S – an uber comfortable casual trainer designed to complement virtually any outfit. From the less sporty models to the sportiest kicks on the block, Asics shoes are packed full of advanced technology – be it for running performance, general sport and exercise, or city chilling. The innovation started a long time ago, with a bowl of octopus salad.

A HISTORY OF ASICS TRAINERS

Said salad was being eaten by Kihachiro Onitsuka, Asics’ founder. He noticed the suction of the octopus tentacles and imagined applying the same function to a basketball shoe, gripping it to the court better than the vulcanized soles Japan had known previously. And with that the innovation began, and so did the brand’s journey. Onitsuka’s suction-cut basketball shoe was released in 1950 and became a huge success across Japan. Three years later, Asics created the first running shoe made from nylon instead of cotton. This didn’t just help to reduce sweating; it was purpose-built for speed and endurance and had a revolutionary lightweight rubber sponge sole to absorb shock. Asics shoes soon got big in America (and then worldwide) thanks to a partnership with the brand that would become Nike. Asics trainers were entering the mainstream, and a big part of that was down to their Mexico 66 shoes. Brought out for the 1966 Olympic pre-trials, they debuted the now-iconic tiger stripe found on all Asics shoes. Bruce Lee wore these as part of a tonal yellow costume during a film production he never saw finished. Lee died before the end of filming, and that got the Asics shoes fame – big time. In 2003, Uma Thurman donned the same shoes and a similar outfit in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, cementing Asics shoes’ place in the limelight.

COMFORT + PERFORMANCE

The Mexico 66 style is one of many running shoes that Asics has reappropriated as a comfy casual kick. Everyone knows Asics shoes are great for running and sport performance, but they’re even better for general comfort.

ASICS’ INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT

To keep striking that winning balance between comfort and performance requires more than a lot of attention to detail. It’s what gives life to the exciting technologies inside Asics sports shoes, as well as casual Asics trainers. Shout-outs go to GUIDESOLE™ and METARIDE™ technologies – designed to propel you forward for a stride that expends less energy. Another mention goes to Asics’ WET GRIP RUBBER™ outsoles, which grip to ground that is wet with rain or courts that are wet with sweat.
